August Sander Prize

The August Sander Prize is a prize for portrait photography awarded by the Photography Collection of the SK Stiftung Kultur in Cologne .

Characteristic

The photographer August Sander (1876–1964) gave the award his name, which was first awarded in 2018, donated by Ulla Bartenbach and the lawyer and university professor Kurt Bartenbach. The award is made in cooperation with the Photographische Sammlung / SK Stiftung Kultur in Cologne. The prize, which is awarded every two years, aims to promote young, contemporary artistic approaches in the sense of factual, conceptual photography with a special focus on the human portrait. The prize is endowed with 5,000 euros. National and international artists up to and including 40 years of age with a focus on photography are allowed to take part. Thematically related groups of images or sequences that have not yet received a prize in other competitions are taken into account.
