August Becker , pseudonym Armiger (born March 5, 1834 in Cologne ; † February 5, 1877 ) was a German theater actor , director , dramaturge and artistic director .

Life

His father was a piano manufacturer and wanted his son to study theology. For this purpose he also referred to the University of Bonn, although the theater interested him more than the alma mater , and he decided to become an actor. His first engagement was Frankfurt am Main, his second Oldenburg, which he was not to leave. Here he worked as an actor in the field of first lovers from 1861 to 1867 and was so able to win the favor of the Grand Duke that in the last year he was even given the direction of the court theater. Nevertheless, he did not neglect his acting profession and assigned himself some difficult character roles. his work as a director, dramaturge, actor and director was highly recognized in Oldenburg. On November 16, 1873, he was supposed to step on the boards for the last time as "Lucius", because a serious illness soon tied him to his room, to which he succumbed on February 5, 1877, much to the chagrin of his friends and admirers.
