August Kirchberg

August Kirchberg (* July 2, 1863 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † August 31, 1945 there ) was the co-founder and first managing director of the Mülheim housing cooperative (MWB).

Live and act

In 1898, August Kirchberg and 22 Mülheim citizens founded the “savings and construction cooperative of evangelical citizens and workers Mülheim an der Ruhr”, thereby laying the foundation for today's Mülheimer Wohnungsbau eG (MWB). He gave up his original job as a tanner, became managing director of the building cooperative and held this office until he was 80 years old. In addition, he was a member of the Mülheim city council from 1902 to 1933 and was chairman of the German People's Party (DVP) in Mülheim an der Ruhr, which he co-founded after the First World War .

In 1930 a street in Mülheim an der Ruhr was named after him (Kirchbergshöhe).
