August Kreis III (born November 2, 1954 ) is an American neo-Nazi leader . Kreis was a member of the Ku Klux Klan , the loose right-wing extremist group Posse Comitatus and the religious-racist organization Aryan Nations .

In the late 1980s he joined the Posse Comitatus; Furthermore, Kreis was for 13 years a member of the Ku Klux Klan, in which he eventually became a leader. In 1999, Kreis became a member of Aryan Nations. After the death of Aryan Nations leader Richard Girnt Butler , Kreis took over leadership positions within the organization after a power struggle, which led to the division of the Aryan Nations.

Before joining radical groups, he dropped out of Newark High School in New Jersey and served in the US Navy , where he was stationed on a ship on the coast of Vietnam. During his high school years he also began and became active in the White Supremacy movement .

Kreis is known locally for harassing neighbors and city dwellers who disagree. Numerous complaints have been filed with the police, but so far none have led to consequences.

The media took notice of him in 2005 when he was seeking an alliance between the Aryan Nations and Al Qaeda .
