The River Usk (Welsh: Afon Wysg ) is a 112 kilometer long river in the county of Monmouthshire , Wales .
It rises in the central Welsh county of Brecknockshire ( Powys ), takes on the Honddu . The river is tidal up to the river bridge at Newbridge-on-Usk in South Wales . It joins six kilometers south of Newport in Uskmouth in the estuary of the Severn .
The river gave the place Usk near Newport its name.
Historical meaning
In Roman times, the Isca Silurum camp of the Legio II Augusta was located at the mouth of the Usk . The river also plays a role in the Arthurian legend.
