Auguste Adami , nee Auguste Herbert , also Auguste Pohl ( March 5, 1813 in Berlin - February 3, 1886 ) was a German theater actress and opera singer .

Life

Her father, a painter, wanted her to dedicate her voice to the theater. Gaspare Spontini , at that time Prussian general music director, recommended her to the chamber and opera singer Auguste Schmalz for training . She was reluctant to be accepted as a member of the royal opera choir, so she dared her first engagement at the Königstädtisches Theater in a speaking role. Her rehearsal roles led to an engagement as a vaudeville singer in 1829 . It was widely praised, even the then feared theater reviewer Moritz Gottlieb Saphir only commented benevolently on it. When the Königstädtische Theater was closed on June 30, 1851, she was the only member of this theater to find employment at the Court Theater. Her inaugural role there was the "neighbor" in That Was Me . After 25 years of stage presence at the court theater, to the general regret, she withdrew into private life. She was able to enjoy her retirement for ten years until she suddenly fell seriously ill in August 1885. Her condition seemed to be improving, and on December 12, 1885, she suffered a repeated stroke-like attack. As a result, she died on February 3, 1886.

Adami was first married to the actor Julius Pohl . After his death in 1840, she married the writer and editor of the Kreuzzeitung Johann Friedrich Adami on September 28, 1841 , who wrote several plays for her, in which she also appeared with great success.
