Auguste Penjon

Auguste Penjon (born January 21, 1843 in Valence , † August 23, 1919 in Douai , Département Nord ) was a French historian of philosophy .

Penjon was professor of philosophy in Douai from 1881 to 1913. In 1899 he became a corresponding member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques . He developed his own theory about the origin of laughter . It first appeared in 1893 in the Revue Philosophique under the title Le rire et la liberté ("Laughter and freedom").
