history
With Duke Rudolf IV, a monastery for the Augustinian hermits was founded in 1362 at the request of the citizens . The monastery church was built from 1365 to 1368. In 1503 and 1685 damage was caused by fires. In the third quarter of the 18th century a baroque renovation took place. In 1811 the monastery was closed. In 1956 the monastery building and cloister were demolished. The church was restored in 1978.
architecture
The two-bay, Gothic choir with a five-eighth end has a ribbed vault with three figural keystones and high two- and three-part tracery windows, but outside with two stepped buttresses. The four-bay nave was rebuilt in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century and vaulted with a square vault on pillars that form flat altar niches. During this renovation, pilasters were also installed in the choir. At the same time, a three-part, stuccoed entrance front, surmounted by a central tower, was built on the north side, which dominates the church square.
During the restoration in 1968, frescoes from around 1400 were uncovered: on the choir walls around 20 reconstructable medallions with half-figures of the apostles alternating with prophets, to which sentences of the creed are attached in banderoles. Above, in the sloping choir, there are large-figure, enthroned kings and prophets, whose heads, once sculpted, served as rib consoles. The right sloping choir shows Vera Ikon and Daniel in the lions' den , on the north wall the inscription ... orare deum per animam johanne aquila picture , which refers to the painter of the frescoes Johannes Aquila . On the southern wall of the nave remains of frescoes show a Madonna in a side altar, flanked by two saints and in conversation Enge musician angels.
