Augustinian convent Rüthen
The Augustinian convent St. Margaretha in Rüthen was built around 1480. It existed until 1734. From 1749 to 1772 Ursulines were settled there. The building is therefore now called the Ursuline Monastery in the village .
In addition to prayer, the Augustinian women produced textiles and devoted themselves to educating the girls in Rüthen. In 1733 a merger with the Odacker monastery was planned, but not carried out. After a fire some years later, the branch was closed. In 1749 Ursulines, who originally came from Dorsten , settled here. They also had the baroque building that still exists today built. However, the community could not hold on and the sisters returned to Dorsten in 1772.
Today the building is used by the local Volksbank .
