The house at Augustinerstraße 5 in Esslingen am Neckar is a former Catholic rectory with assembly rooms.

history

The two-story classical plastered building was erected around the middle of the 19th century, but stands on older building remains. The vaulted cellar on the third basement floor was already occupied as a built-over cellar in the 18th century. Parts of the old city wall , which was partially demolished in 1811, are integrated into the north wall of the building . The facade with its central risers and the two coffered entrance doors as well as arched skylights and arched windows on the west side is symmetrically structured.

The Roman Catholic parish of Esslingen, founded in 1806 , grew in importance and in 1861 acquired the old, secular Dominican monastery church , which it rededicated. In this phase of the boom, the rectory was apparently also planned and built.
