The house Augustinerstraße 8 in Esslingen am Neckar is a medieval building.

history

The base of the building is formed by the walls of the Augustinian Hermit Monastery, documented since 1282 and profaned in 1550. In the 16th century, a two-part half-timbered building was placed on a high quarry stone and ashlar plinth, which protrudes slightly on the right side. At the corner of the building there is a cuboid with a coat of arms, a stonemason's mark and the year 1591, which presumably refers to the protruding half-timbered part. The nested St. Andrew's crosses and the headbands in this part of the building are typical of the late 16th century. Above the arched portal on the street side there is a keystone from 1784. Apparently, the building was converted back then. The front door should be from the same time. Additions were added to the north side in the 20th century.

Augustinian Fountain

In a niche immediately to the left of the building is the Augustinerbrunnen, a running fountain with a rectangular fountain trough and an outlet pipe from the 19th century. The water comes from the Mayernwald spring in Krummenacker .
