Ruins of Auldhame Castle

Auldhame Castle is the ruin of an L-shaped tower block on a chain of hills above Seacliff Beach , about 3 miles north of North Berwick in the East Lothian administrative division of Scotland . Tantallon Castle is only half a mile away.

The castle was built in the 16th century, probably for Adam Otterburn of Reidhall , Lord Provost of Edinburgh .

Auldhame Castle consisted of a three-story main block with an attached stair tower . Part of the vaulted cellar has been preserved to this day, but most of the upper floors have disappeared.

Here is one of three places where Saint Baldred of Tyningham is believed to have been buried in 756.
