Aulus Petronius Lurco

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aulus Petronius Lurco (* probably before 15; † after 58) was a politician of the Roman Empire and consul of the year 58 AD.

Almost nothing is known of Aulus Petronius Lurco, except that in the year 58, from July to December, he served as the next consul with Aulus Paconius Sabinus . The nickname Lurco means something like "Schlemmer" or "Wüstling".

The name appears in three parts in the Arvalakten and as A. Petronius on a wax tablet found in Pompeii .

It is conceivable that Aulus Petronius Lurco is related to M. Petronius Lurco , who in AD 46 was named second among the curatores tabulariorum publicorum after the chairman Gaius Calpetanus Rantius Sedatus and before Titus Satrius Decianus . Since this is where by the anonymous Einsidlensis faulty handed letters of Praenomens obviously is ( "Metronius") to a clerical error, it is also possible that the two Petronii Lurci can be identified with each other.
