history

Gut Wiesenhof, the former headquarters of Carlsson

In 1989, Carlsson Automobiltechnik GmbH was founded by the brothers Rolf and Andreas Hartge. The namesake, technology partner and former works driver of Mercedes-Benz , the Swede Ingvar Carlsson , who died in 2009 , was at the company's side for a long time with advice and action. At Carlsson, his experience flowed into further technical developments and innovations.

The company remained in the hands of the Hartge brothers until 2007 when they sold the company to Mathias R. Albert. Since May 2012 it has been owned 70% by Zhongsheng Holding in Hong Kong.

In May 2015, Carlsson filed for bankruptcy due to insolvency. On December 4, 2015, the company was taken over by the South Korean automotive supplier Sambo Motors and has operated under the name “ Carlsson Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH ” ever since .

Company headquarters

The vehicle tuner has been based in a former, around 25,000 square meter manor ( Gut Wiesenhof ) from the 19th century in Merzig, Saarland , which was awarded a prize for monument protection after its renovation by the Hartge brothers in 1996 . Built by District Administrator Baron Constantin von Briesen and originally intended for the breeding of noble racehorses, you can find engine test stands and an electronics laboratory in the 170-year-old walls.

On April 1, 2016, Carlsson Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH relocated its headquarters to Saarlouis.

Racing

Since 1999, Carlsson has participated in various races and racing series with its own racing team, Carlsson Racing , including the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring , the Dakar Rally and the VLN endurance championship Nürburgring . The current vehicle is the CK35 RS (based on the Mercedes-Benz SLK 350 ), with which the racing team achieved 2nd place in the 2006 VLN endurance championship.

Products

In 1994 Carlsson developed a spoked wheel for Mercedes-Benz automobiles for the tuning market. Self-developed alloy wheels are one of the company's core businesses.

Carlsson C25

In 2000, the company launched supercharged engines. Shortly afterwards, Carlsson developed a tuning program for diesel vehicles with the brand C-Tronic . According to Carlsson, this additional control unit is intended to increase engine performance and reduce fuel consumption. The manufacturer has been using the C-Tronic suspension since 2004 to improve the chassis properties of its vehicles. With his modifications, the tuner significantly changes the series models from Mercedes-Benz . The program also includes accessory products for smart vehicles.

The most important project is currently the Gran Turismo Carlsson C25, designed by Carlsson chief designer Rolf Schepp and built in a small series of 25 units . With this first self-developed complete vehicle, Carlsson wants to make its competencies visible and combine excellent driving performance with comprehensive everyday usability. The unit price for the handcrafted C25 is 510,510 euros. Carlsson only wants to deliver one C25 per country in order to guarantee “exclusivity”.

The racing driver Ellen Lohr acts as the company's brand ambassador.
