history

In July 1908, the NV Rubberfabriek Vredestein was founded by Mr. Emile Louis Constant Schiff (1864-1949). In Loosduinen (Holland) the production of bicycle tires began in 1910. The production of car tires started in 1912, in 1914 the 10,000 was already produced. The natural rubber came now from the Far East rather than from Brazil. A bicycle tire factory in Doetinchem was set up in 1934. After studying in Delft, ELC Schiff Junior, born in 1895, died in 1962, followed his father as director of the rubber factory in Vredestein.

In 1946 the 10 millionth bicycle tire was produced in Delft. In the same year, after the Second World War, the new NV Nederlandsche-Amerikaansche Autobandenfabriek was founded in Enschede. A total of 6000 shares were divided into: 1750 pieces for the NV Rubberfabriek Vredestein and 1250 pieces for the American BF Goodrich. 3000 shares were distributed on the open stock market. B . F. Goodrich left the company as a shareholder in 1977, followed by many years with different shareholders. Vredestein NV was taken over by the Russian Amtel group in 2005. However, this group went bankrupt a short time later , but was able to find its way back into independence unscathed. In 2009 Vredestein was then taken over by the Indian tire manufacturer Apollo Tires .

Since then the company has been operating under the name Apollo Vredestein BV , with European headquarters in London and Amsterdam.

In order to increase the success of the tires in the most advanced market segments, Vredestein formed an alliance with the world-famous Italian industrial design company Giugiaro. In 1997, the Sportrac was created with the development engineers and Giugiaro. This tire, created in the H and V sector, received a lot of attention in the industry.
