Paderborn-Nord repair shop
The Paderborn-Nord repair shop has existed since 1913 and is now the headquarters of the central sales department for freight wagons of Deutsche Bahn .
history
At the beginning of the 20th century, the cities of Paderborn, Lippstadt and Soest applied for the location of a new repair shop for the Prussian-Hessian State Railways . In anticipation of the creation of jobs and an increase in rail traffic, all three cities were ready to provide the railways with the required land free of charge. As an advance payment, the city of Paderborn took out a loan in 1907 to purchase 19 hectares of land and to build the necessary infrastructure. This - and not least the influence of the Paderborn ministerial director Hermann Kirchhoff - led the government in Berlin to commit to Paderborn as the location in 1910. On July 10, 1913, the Royal Main Car Workshop for freight wagons of KED Kassel was opened at Paderborn Nord train station with a workforce of around 550 men.
The Deutsche Reichsbahn later took over the KED. In March 1945, the factory and a neighboring train station were the target of air raids .
In 1958, the Paderborn Hbf repair shop was attached to the Paderborn-Nord repair shop and finally closed on July 31, 1960. The employees still found work in Paderborn-Nord, at that time almost 2000 people were employed there. In 2002 the plant was elevated to the status of the central sales center for freight wagons and is a DB vehicle maintenance plant .
