In shipping, disembarking is the term used to describe the transport of passengers from a ship lying in the roadstead to the land. In Germany, this form of transport is traditionally only available on the island of Helgoland . So-called Helgoland boat boats are used there to disembark . Leaving a ship in distress with life-saving equipment such as a lifeboat or life raft is also referred to as disembarking.

The transport of passengers to the ship is called embarkation .
