Beyenburg compensation pond

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Beyenburg compensation pond was a damming up of the Wupper in the Wuppertal district of Beyenburg .

Was built in the equalization pond 1898-1900 by the Wupper dams Cooperative (legal predecessor of Wupperverbandes ), he was at that time after the equalization pond Dahlhausen and the equalization pond Buchhofen the third major impoundment over the Wupper. It had a storage capacity of 72,000 m³ and was used for flood protection .

The compensation pond existed until 1950 and was replaced by the Beyenburger reservoir , which was put into operation in 1954. The new building became necessary because the compensating pond could no longer adequately fulfill its function as a flood protection system.
