Committee on Hazardous Substances

The Committee for Hazardous Substances (AGS) is a voluntary body to be set up in accordance with Section 20 of the Hazardous Substances Ordinance . The management lies with the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA).

The AGS advises the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) on questions about occupational safety when handling hazardous substances . His tasks also include the development of technical rules ( TRGS ).

The AGS has 21 members from employers, trade unions, state authorities, statutory accident insurance and experts. A deputy member is named for each member. Membership in the Committee for Hazardous Substances is voluntary. The current chairman of the AGS is Martin Kayser ( BASF ).

The AGS advises the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) on questions about occupational safety when handling hazardous substances .

The tasks of the committee also include:

  1. to establish rules corresponding to the state of the art, occupational medicine and occupational hygiene and to obtain other reliable information for activities with hazardous substances, including their classification and labeling,
  2. Establishing rules and obtaining knowledge of how the requirements set out in the Hazardous Substances Ordinance can be met,
  3. To propose and regularly review occupational exposure limit values (AGW) , biological limit values (BGW) and other assessment criteria for hazardous substances, taking into account the following:
- When determining the limit values, it must be ensured that the health of the employees is protected.
- For each substance for which an occupational exposure limit value or a biological limit value has been set in legal acts of the European Union, a national limit value must be proposed, taking this limit value into account.
