Automatic level control

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The automatic level control , also called automatic level control or level control , is an electronic component in sound engineering that is used in an audio system, e.g. B. a sound recorder, automatically makes a control within the dynamic range .

In contrast, there is the manual level control, which is set by hand on the level control under the control of the level meter .

There are analog and digital level control circuits. An example of a device with analog automatic level control is the cassette recorder . Modern digital storage recorders also have an automatic system, depending on the version.

advantages

The advantage of the automatic is the absolute override protection.

disadvantage

Disadvantages are dynamic compression, which may be undesirable, as well as a subsequent reduction in volume in the case of brief sound events. In analog systems, additional non-linear distortion occurs.
