The Austin Peay State University is a state university in Clarksville in the US state of Tennessee . It was founded in 1927 and named in honor of Governor Austin Peay (1876–1927), who died in office that year . It has been recognized as a university since 1967 and there are currently 9,192 students enrolled here.
