Australian Communications and Media Authority

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) ( German  "Australian Telecommunications and Media Authority" ) is the competent authority for telecommunications in Australia . It is a department of the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy ( German "Ministry for Broadband, Communication and Digital Economy" ), comparable to its German counterpart , the Federal Network Agency , which is subordinate to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy .  

The ACMA was created on July 1, 2005 through the merger of the Australian Broadcasting Authority ( German  " Australian Broadcasting Authority " ) and the Australian Communications Authority ( German  "Australian Telecommunications Authority " ). It governs the country's telecommunications affairs through laws , regulations , standards and regulations . It has offices in Sydney , Canberra and Melbourne .
