The Australian Transport Safety Bureau ( ATSB ; German  " Australian Transport Safety Authority " ) is an Australian authority responsible for the accident investigation of civil transportation (rail, aviation, shipping, road transport), for statistical coverage of such accidents and is responsible for their prevention . In the division of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economy and Administration (Minister Anthony Albanese ) the independent authority has been part of the division of the "Transport Policy Division" since July 1999.

The legal basis for the agency's action is the Transport Safety Investigation Act of 2003 (TSI Act).
