The ACA - Austrian Cockpit Association, Association of Austrian Transport Pilots is an association for Austrian transport pilots based at Vienna Airport .

The association was founded in 1958 by pilots from Austrian Airlines under the name AUALPA (Austrian Airline Pilots' Association). As in many other countries, the name was based on the name of the international umbrella organization IFALPA . To express better that pilots of other Austrian companies are represented, the name was the end of the 1990s - this time in reference to the European umbrella organization European Cockpit Association - Association changed on Austrian cockpit.

The association pursues the professional political interests of Austrian air traffic pilots, in particular the continuous improvement of flight safety.

Only pilots who fly commercially with an Austrian aviation company and Austrian pilots who fly commercially in a country without an IFALPA pilot association can become full members. Flight students, retirees and people with an affinity for aviation can join as extraordinary members (limited rights and obligations). The board decides on each new entry. A range of supports and benefits are available to members.

ACA delegates are represented in the most important IFALPA and ECA working groups. Positions that have been coordinated around the world and across Europe are developed there, which can then be implemented nationally. To this end, the ACA is in close contact with Austrian authorities and other interest groups and also comments on aviation-related bills.

ACA specialist committees:

  • AAP (Accident Analysis and Prevention / Aircraft Accident Analysis and Precautionary Measures)
  • BIZ (Business Aviation / General Aviation Business Travel Aircraft)
  • HUPER (Human Performance / Aviation Psychology, Aviation Medicine, Training and Licensing)
  • SOCIAL WINGS (social aspects of aviation professions)
  • P&G (Professional and Government Affairs / working conditions and legal framework at company level)
  • ATS (Air Traffic Services / Air Traffic Control Matters)
  • DG (Dangerous Goods / dangerous goods in air transport)
  • SEC (security / security against unlawful attacks)
  • AGE (Aerodrome and Ground Aids / airports and security-relevant ground facilities)
  • ADO (Aircraft Design and Operation / construction and operation of aircraft)
  • HEL (helicopter / helicopter)

ACA cooperates closely with the other German-speaking pilot associations Vereinigung Cockpit (Germany) and Aeropers (Switzerland) through the framework of IFALPA and ECA .

A trade union activities is provided in the statutes, but due to the size of the professional group of pilots of the Association for reaching the collective agreement status not provided for minimum size. However, there is a cooperation with the responsible trade union vida and the works councils of the two largest airlines.

With the exception of the permanent office manager, all ACA employees work on a voluntary basis.

ACA cooperates with AATCA, the Association of Austrian Air Traffic Controllers and the VÖF (Association of Austrian Flight Service Advisors) and has been organizing meetings for pilots and controllers together with AATCA for many years. In the “Profi Lounges”, controllers and pilots can discuss presentations on current aviation topics. This is intended to increase the understanding of the “other” group's view of the jointly “processed” airspace.

The members of the association are informed through the association's homepage, via social media and, if necessary, by email, as well as through lectures and workshops on aviation topics. The bimonthly membership magazine ACA Info provides in-depth background information about the work of the organization and the latest in aviation. Guest contributions from AATCA and VÖF as well as cultural topics round off the reporting.

At the 2016 General Assembly, the members of the ACA were the first pilot association in the world to elect a female pilot, Isabel Doppelreiter, as president.
