Authentication center

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Authentication Center (also Authentication Center ) or English Authentication Center (AuC) describes a function for the authentication of SIM cards against the digital GSM cellular network (usually after switching on the mobile phone ). In addition to the algorithms A3 and A8 , the AuC also contains the subscriber's secret authentication key K i .

As soon as the authentication is successfully completed, the Home Location Register is able to manage the SIM and GSM services . In addition, a cryptological key is generated which is used to encrypt all communication between the mobile phone and the GSM network.

A secure implementation in this area is necessary to prevent so-called SIM cloning , the possibility of issuing one SIM card for another.
