Avalanche is a Norwegian synthpop duo founded in 1984. The group consists of the couple Kjetil Røsnes (born March 30, 1960 in Lørenskog) and Kirsti Johansen (born September 22, 1963 in Kristiansand). The singles Johnny, Johnny Come Home and I Will Wait achieved chart successes in Norway and above all in France at the end of the eighties. From the mid-1990s Røsnes and Johansen achieved chart successes for other artists, including Samantha Fox .

Furthermore, they took part in the Norwegian preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest , compositionally and also vocally .

history

From the late 1980s and 1990s, the couple lived and worked in Germany and France. The couple has lived with their two children in Aurskog-Høland in Norway since 2005. Kjetil Røsnes is also the owner of Planet Orange Production, a music production company based in Aurskog.

In 1989 the duo had their biggest hit with the song Johnny, Johnny Come Home (which was written during a night in Hamburg a year earlier) in France, where it was number one for eight weeks (around 700,000 units sold). The title was also successful in her home country of Norway. With I Will Wait another chart placement succeeded in France. Her self-titled debut album Avalanche was released in the same year . The distribution took place via the German record labels Wea-Rekords and TELDEC .

After a few more single releases, the second album Westbound was released in 1992 by EastWest .

In the mid-1990s Kjetil Røsnes and Kirsti Johansen wrote Santa Maria , a very successful piece for both the Dutch singer Tatjana Šimić (1995) and Samantha Fox (1997).

From the end of the nineties they published under the pseudonym K + K.

In 2007 the group Blue Moon Band with the title Goodbye to Yesterday , written by Kjetil & Kirsti , took part in the Melodi Grand Prix, the Norwegian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . A year later Avalanche were even represented at the Melodi Grand Prix with the song Two Monkeys (On the Roof) .

The song was written back in 1997 when the couple lived near Cannes in France. But they could not take part in the Melodi Grand Prix 2008 in Norway together because Kirsti had a problem with her vocal cords. For the gig, she was replaced by Camilla Alvestad (former member of the Norwegian band Reset).

It was not until 2015 that the duo became active again, gave acoustic concerts and thus celebrated their 30th anniversary.
