Avi Ran

Avi Ran (born August 25, 1963 , † July 11, 1987 in the Sea of ​​Galilee near Tiberias ) was an Israeli football player on the position of goalkeeper . Ran was considered one of the best players in Israel and looked forward to a promising future when he was killed in an accident.

Football career

Ran won the Israeli championship twice with his hometown club Maccabi Haifa . In the 1985/86 season he set a record when he conceded only 18 goals in 30 games this season. That is why he was named "Footballer of the Year" in Israel that same year . He was also the goalkeeper of the Israeli national team .

The accident

Maccabi celebrated Haifa on the Sea of ​​Galilee on July 11, 1987 . Avi Ran went on a swimming trip and was hit by a speedboat while bathing on the "Guy" beach in Tiberias , causing him to die. Over 14,000 supporters of the association are said to have come to his funeral.
