Avignon Football 84 is a French football club from Avignon , the capital of the French department of Vaucluse .

It was founded in 1931 as the Association Sportive Avignonaise . The club carried this name until the early 1960s , when it merged with a club from the Saint-Jean district and called itself Olympique Avignonais - under this name it has had its greatest successes to date. 1992, after Olympique got into considerable financial distress and merged with the Sporting Club, another name was changed to Club Olympique Avignonais ; In 2003 it adopted its current name.

The club colors are black and white; the league team plays in the Parc des Sports , which seats 7,500 spectators. (As of August 2006)

League affiliation

Avignon had professional status from 1942–1948, 1965–1981 and again from 1989–1991. First class ( Division 1 , renamed Ligue 1 since 2002 ) the club only played in the 1975/76 season; after an interlude in the second division (1989-1991) he is currently only in the sixth class Division d'Honneur .
