Avril Doyle

Avril Doyle (born April 18, 1949 in Dublin as Avril Belton ) is an Irish politician. From 1999 to 2009 she was one of the three Members of the European Parliament for the constituency of Eastern Ireland . Doyle is a member of the Fine Gael .

Doyle was born in 1949 to the politician Richard Belton . She studied biochemistry at University College Dublin , where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1971 . From 1974 to 1995 she was a member of the County Council of Wexford and from 1976 to 1977 Mayor of Wexford . She also sat from 1982 to 1989 and from 1992 to 1997 in Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament. There she held various positions as Minister of State . From 1989 to 1992 and from 1997 to 2002 Doyle was a member of the Seanad Éireann , the upper house of the Irish Parliament. In 1999 she was elected to the European Parliament and successfully ran for re-election in 2004. In the European Parliament she belongs to the Group of the European People's Party and European Democrats and was a member of its executive committee. From 2007 she was also deputy chairwoman of the Fisheries Committee . In the 2009 European elections , Doyle decided not to run again.
