Axel Carl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Axel Carl (* 1960 ) is a German physicist and science journalist.

Axel Carl received his doctorate in 1992 under Eberhard Wassermann at the University of Duisburg-Essen ( localization, electron-electron interaction and metal-insulator transition in granular Pd-xC-1-x layers ). In 2000 he completed his habilitation in Duisburg ( periodic magnetic dot grids as high-density storage media of the future: production and characterization by magnetic force microscopy ). Then he was a private lecturer.

He deals with magnetic nanostructures with applications such as computer memory.

He organizes school competitions and festivals in science and technology, including one for explore science in Mannheim .

With Eberhard Wassermann, he has organized the Science Festival Highlights of Physics from the Federal Ministry for Research and Technology in collaboration with the German Physical Society since 2001 . It was brought into being based on the events in the year of physics 2000 and took place annually in a different city (with free admission).

In 2007 he and Eberhard Wassermann received the medal for scientific journalism from the German Physical Society (DPG).

Carl also organized the highlights of physics in Bonn in 2019 as scientific director. He has his own consulting company (AC Science Consulting).
