Axel Klein (Japanologist)

Axel Peter Klein (* 1968 ) is a German Japanologist .

Life

From 1987 to 1994 Axel Klein studied Japanese Studies, Political Science and Comparative Religious Studies at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . In 1998 he received his doctorate with one of his thesis on the reform of the electoral system in Japan .

From 1998 to 2007 Klein was a research assistant at the Research Center for Modern Japan at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. In 2005 , Klein completed his habilitation with a thesis on the political system of Japan .

From 2007 to 2011, Klein was employed as a research assistant at the German Institute for Japanese Studies in Tokyo . Since 2012 he has held a professorship for modern social science East Asian studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen . He researches u. a. on religion and politics in Japan and the electoral and party system in Japan.
