With the follow-up single I Don't Want To , a duet with Ronnie Dunn from Brooks & Dunn , she had her first Top 40 success in the same year. However, this wasn't enough for their record company, and the planned release of their debut album was initially canceled. It was not until 2009 that the work appeared digitally on iTunes, among others . Monroe concentrated on songwriting and found buyers for her songs in The Little Willies , Carrie Underwood , Vince Gill , Sara Evans and Bonnie Tyler . Monroe also established herself as a soloist in the country business with the albums Like a Rose (2013) and The Blade (2015). Both albums found themselves on several annual best lists. Time chose The Blade from among the ten best albums of 2015.

Her biggest hit so far was a duet with Blake Shelton . Lonely Tonight comes from Shelton's album Bringing Back the Sunshine and reached number two on the country and number 47 of the pop charts. In addition, the single was awarded a gold award. With Shelton, Monroe had already sung the traditional and humorous duet You Ain't Dolly (And You Ain't Porter ) on Like a Rose .
