Axel Schweitzer (born July 8, 1969 in Berlin ) is a German entrepreneur . As CEO, Schweitzer leads the Alba Group together with his brother Eric Schweitzer . The company is based in Berlin. Since 2006 he has been chairman of the supervisory board of ALBA Berlin Basketball GmbH , since 2008 chairman of the board of ALBA SE (formerly INTERSEROH SE). In 2013, ALBA SE made a change from a dualistic to a monistic system; Schweitzer was elected chairman of the board of directors. Since October 2013 he has been a member of the Greater China speaker team of the Asia-Pacific Committee of German Business (APA). Since November 2016 he has also been president of the ALBA BERLIN eV

Life

After graduating from high school in 1989, Axel Schweitzer studied industrial engineering at the Technical University in Berlin until 1993. In 1995 he received his doctorate there as Dr.-Ing.

Schweitzer says he is committed to social issues by supporting the KINDerLEBEN association in the form of an annual benefit gala. He is also active as chairman of the supervisory board of ALBA Berlin Basketball GmbH for the benefit of sports in Berlin.

Professional background

During his studies, Axel Schweitzer worked as a technical consultant and marketing specialist for the recycling company Alba, which was founded by his father Franz Josef Schweitzer . After completing his studies, he worked from 1993 to 1994 while completing his doctorate in Locarno (Switzerland) at Thermoselect SA in sales and as a technical consultant.

In 1995 Schweitzer was appointed to the Alba board (since January 2011 Alba Group plc & Co. KG). Together with his brother Eric Schweitzer , after the death of their father in 1998 and assumption of overall responsibility in the company, he formed the Alba Group into one of the ten largest companies in the world in the field of environmental services and raw material supply. In addition, he was chairman of the supervisory board of Alba SE (formerly Interseroh AG and Interseroh SE) between 2005 and 2008, before taking over the position of chairman of the board in 2008. In 2013, Schweitzer was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In January 2018 it was reported that Axel Schweitzer, the first German as a high-end foreign expert, received China's first expert visa from the Chinese ambassador Mingde Shi. The work permit is reserved for highly qualified scientists, technical professionals, managers and artists.
