Axiom Space is an American space company from Houston / Texas. It was 2016 u. a. Founded by Michael Suffedini, a former NASA program director (2005–2015) for the International Space Station (ISS). Other employees and executives also come from the environment of NASA and the US space industry, including the former astronauts Michael López-Alegría and Brent Jett .

In 2020, the company stepped into the public spotlight when NASA announced that it wanted to connect additional station modules for commercial use to the International Space Station, and Axiom was selected as a partner. For a company that has only existed for such a short time, this is an unusually large project, but this can probably be explained by the staff with appropriate space expertise.

Axiom Space modules coupled to the front docking port of the ISS

With the module or several interconnected modules, the US space activities and also the ISS are to be further commercialized. NASA had launched a tender in the Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships 2 program (NextSTEP 2), from which Axiom Space emerged as the winner. The front coupling nozzle on the US part of the ISS was provided as the coupling point.
