Ciudad Apodaca is a city in the Mexican state of Nuevo León , which is part of the Zona Metropolitana de Monterrey . It is located in the northeastern part of the metropolitan area and is the main town of the Municipio Apodaca . In 2015 the city had 535,100 inhabitants and the municipality 597,207 inhabitants. Apodaca is the fourth largest city in the state (after Monterrey , Guadalupe and San Nicolás de los Garza ), one of the fastest growing cities in Nuevo León, and an important industrial center.
The city is named after Dr. Salvador Apodaca , bishop of the city of Linares , who was born in Guadalajara in 1769 .
history
The area where Apodaca is located today used to be the site of a settlement called Estancia Castaño, which was later named Hacienda de San Francisco. The name Apodaca was adopted by the State Congress in honor of Dr. Salvador de Apodaca y Loreto, Bishop of Linares, a person who has done significant philanthropic work in the state of Nuevo León.
On March 31, 1851, Apodaca received the title of a villa (small town) during the government of Agapito García Dávila . More than a hundred years later, on March 26, 1982, it was promoted to the city category by a decree signed by the then governor Alfonso Martínez Domínguez .
In the 1960s, Apodaca was incorporated into the Monterrey metropolitan area. This location advantage allowed it to grow into a large city.
Population development
Thanks to its location in the economically strong metropolitan area of Monterrey, the city is experiencing rapid population growth.
