Zona Metropolitana de Monterrey
The Zona Metropolitana de Monterrey (Metropolitan Region Monterrey) is a metropolitan region around the city of Monterrey in the Mexican state of Nuevo León . Officially known as Area Metropolitana de la Ciudad de Monterrey or AMM , the metropolitan area is the third largest such region in Mexico after the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México and the Zona Metropolitana de Guadalajara . In 2015 the population was estimated at 4.7 million people; In 1990 it was 2.7 million.

The region forms a leading industrial center in Mexico. It is the headquarters of companies such as Cemex and Grupo Bimbo, and the production facilities of large multinational companies such as Mercedes-Benz , BMW , Samsung , Boeing and General Electric . Monterrey is the city with the highest income per capita in Mexico. The cities of San Nicolás de los Garza and San Pedro Garza García are considered particularly wealthy and exclusive .
