Azər Rzayev

Azər Hüseyn oğlu Rzayev (born July 15, 1930 , Baku, Azerbaijani SSR , Soviet Union ; † December 14, 2015 , Baku , Azerbaijan ) was a Soviet-Azerbaijani composer, violinist and music teacher.

Life

Azər Rzayev's father was Hüseyn Rzayev, his mother the opera singer Həqiqət Rzayeva (1907-1969). He received his musical training at the Azerbaijani State Conservatory in Baku. he had violin lessons with SL Bretanitski and Alexander Naumowitsch Amiton (1911–1969) and attended the composition class of Boris Isaakowitsch Seidman (1908–1981). In 1953 he graduated in violin and composition. From then on he was a violin teacher at a music school and concertmaster of the conservatory orchestra for ten years. From 1954 he was a member of the Association of Azerbaijani Composers and since 1957 on its board of directors. In 1955 he was awarded at an international composition competition in Warsaw . From 1957 he taught at the conservatory primarily in the chamber music department. In 1972 he received the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR . From 1972 to 1987 he was the director of the Azerbaijani State Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1977 he became a professor at the Azerbaijani State Conservatory and later head of the Department of String Instruments. He was also artistic director of the Philharmonic Society. In 1990 he was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR . He was a member of the Soviet Composers Association. In 2000 he was awarded the Şöhrət Order and in 2002 the Humay Prize. On his eightieth birthday, he was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his contribution to the development of Azerbaijani culture . In 1997 he founded a children's symphony orchestra and was its conductor and artistic director for many years. Azər Rzayev was the author and presenter of the television series Musiqi aləmində [World of Music] and the radio series Opera səhnəmizin ustaları [Master of our Opera].

Azər Rzayev wrote works for the stage and film. He also wrote the symphony Bakı-90, three violin concertos, Fədai-Vətən for violin and orchestra , a piano concerto, a double concerto for violin, viola and symphony orchestra, a sonatina for violin and piano, sonata for violin, violoncello and piano, and Nocturne for Chamber orchestra, Cantilena for violoncello and orchestra, Düşüncə [thinking] and Qaytağı [back] for tar and chamber orchestra, Gənc ifaçılar marşı for symphony orchestra, six preludes for piano and a concerto for three violins and violin orchestra.
