Bårbykärret

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bårbykärret is a bog on the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea .

The moor is on the west side of the island, east of the towns of Bengtstorp and Bårby, not far from highway 136. East of the moor is the barren Alvar landscape of Stora Alvaret .

Stiff sedge , common swamp rush , cattail and fever clover grow in Bårbykärret . The pond horsetail is particularly common in the mosaic-like swamp . The moor is also home to many bird species like the ruff , red-necked grebe , teal , grebes , Beutelmeise , grebes and black tern . There are also red deer at the edge of the moor .

As with other moors in the Stora Alvaret, the silting up of grazing in the surrounding areas began in the 1960s and siltation increased . Birches and willows pressed on. The areas of open water became smaller. The siltation was slowed down with measures of renaturation and grazing with sheep .

There is an observation tower on the edge of the moor, from which a good overview of the landscape is given.
