The Büdinger Schützengesellschaft von 1353 e. V. is a shooting club in Büdingen , Hessen in Germany .

history

The Büdinger Schützengesellschaft from 1353 is demonstrably one of the oldest shooting clubs in Germany.

Heinrich II. Von Isenburg , Herr zu Büdingen, gave his city of Büdingen a letter of freedom in 1353 - the first city constitution. In addition to exempting citizens from some of the taxes, duties and services, he obliged the people of Büdingen to keep trenches and ramparts, walls and gates in good structural condition and to guard them by permanent guards on the bridges and towers. The Schützengesellschaft refers to this task of self-responsible protection of the settlement by the citizens as the year of its foundation.

Shooting ranges

The shooting range of the Büdinger Schützen has been on the "hammer" since the 17th century. In 1883, the Büdinger Schützengesellschaft acquired the agricultural festival hall on the town's Hammerweide and set up the first permanent shooting range there. In 1914 an open festival hall was built in timber frame construction, which is still operated as such today with renovations carried out for reasons of preventive fire protection in the years 2015 to 2019. In 1997 the city of Büdingen sold the area on the Hammer to the Schützengesellschaft.
