history

Büngern was originally a Westphalian peasantry that stretched southwest of the church town of Rhede. The first documentary mention comes from the year 1050. Since the 19th century Büngern formed a rural community in the office of Rhede in the district of Borken. On August 1, 1968, Büngern was merged with the other municipalities of the Rhede Office to form a new municipality of Rhede, which received city ​​rights in 1975 .
