The Bürgergemeinschaft für Solingen e. V. (BfS) is the first independent voter community in Solingen .

Non-negotiable principles of the BfS

In June 1999 the Bürgergemeinschaft für Solingen (BfS) was founded as an independent association. The BfS is not a party, but a registered association for local politics in Solingen. The civil community for Solingen strives for a non-party and purely factual representation of interests for all citizens of the city of blades. All residents officially registered in Solingen can become members of the association. The BfS works constructively and objectively with all parties representing the City of Solingen, it only excludes cooperation with right-wing and left-wing extremist groups. The BfS statutes expressly state that there is no mandatory parliamentary group . Without being tied to a denominational religious community, the BfS is committed to the Christian worldview.

Martin Bender, born in Solingen- Ohligs , has been the chairman of the community for Solingen since 2003 . Former co-founders of the BfS have left the association.

The BfS council group and the Solingen Citizens' Forum (SBF) joined forces on June 19, 2015 to form a new parliamentary group. This means that the new parliamentary group with four seats behind the CDU, SPD and Bündnis 90 / Grünen has risen to become the fourth largest group in the Solingen city council. The parliamentary group is led by the chairmen Heinz Bender and Jan Michael Lange with equal rights. On August 30, 2017, the Solingen citizens' parliamentary group unanimously decided to change the name to Bürgergemeinschaft für Solingen (BfS). The name change came into effect on September 1, 2017.

Solingen local elections from 1999 until today

In the local elections in 1999, the BfS received 5.3% of the vote, which corresponded to 3 council mandates. The BfS also took part in the local elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2004 and stood for the first time with its own OB candidate (Gudrun Wüsthof) and achieved 8.5% of the votes. This resulted in 6 mandates. For the local elections in 2009 , the BfS presented its own candidate (Markus Preuss) for the mayor , who received 12.1% of the vote. In addition, the BfS achieved 10.4% of the vote in the election of the City of Solingen Council and was represented by 7 members. In the municipal elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2014 , the BfS achieved 4.3% of the Solingen vote.

The next election for the new city council and mayor is scheduled for September 13, 2020. The future legislative period will run from 2020 to 2025. The citizen community nominated Jan Michael Lange as a candidate for the Solingen mayoral election.
