The Bürgerhaus Apothekenstrasse 5 ( Haus Finke ) in Arnsberg is a listed building from the 18th century.

history

It is essentially a two-storey half - timbered building from the time after the town fire of 1709. Little is known about the history of the house in the 18th century. The first owner known by name at the beginning of the 19th century was the pharmacist Willibald Brisken, who also owned the Engelapotheke on the Alter Markt. He exchanged apartments with his father Franz Brisken in 1819 and then lived in the building that later became known as the Hotel zur Krone . Around 1838 the house belonged to an owner named Köhler.

In the 19th century ( post-classical period ), a narrow eaves house frame with an elaborately designed street front with wrought-iron balcony grilles was built in front of the original building. The shop window design from this time is still there. This construction project, which is unusual for the city, was probably carried out at the time of the baker Rüther in the second half of the 19th century in order to be able to better use the building for business purposes.

In 1891 the house became the property of the skilled locksmith and master blacksmith Peter Finke (born December 3, 1853 in Sundern , † July 17, 1946 in Arnsberg ). He himself had a hardware store and a blacksmith's shop that had existed since 1878 in the house. In 1959 it was moved to Ruhrstrasse, where it is still located. It remained in family ownership in the 20th century. In addition to residential purposes, it is still used for retail purposes. A comprehensive renovation took place between 1974 and 1976 with municipal support funds. Among other things, the framework on the west side was exposed again. Further monument conservation work took place in 1988. In 1983 the house was included in the list of monuments of the city of Arnsberg .
