The citizens' initiative for environmental protection Hanover eV (BIU) was founded in April 1971 and has been involved in local politics , environmental protection and transport ever since . In October 1971, the BIU opened Germany's first environmental protection center in its office. The BIU is a member of the Federal Association of Citizens 'Initiatives Environmental Protection (BBU) and the State Association of Citizens' Initiatives Environmental Protection Lower Saxony (LBU).

activities

The citizens' initiative is the editor and publisher of numerous publications on environmental protection and maintains an environmental library with 5500 volumes and 30 current journals. It organizes events on the subject of the environment in the region and takes a position on current issues. As a member of various advisory boards and working groups of public organizations in the Hanover region, she represents environmental protection interests (including the Hanover Region Public Transport Council and proKlima ).

In addition, school projects to increase the use of recycled paper are carried out, information is provided on energy saving in private households and on the subject of green electricity . The BIU cooperates with Naturstrom AG .
