Citizen Mentor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Citizens mentors are in accordance with the original idea of citizens who volunteer so help operate Engagementförderung, other citizens in their voluntary work. The citizen mentors determine the extent of their activity themselves: with regard to the tasks (e.g. only project management or public relations), the field of engagement (e.g. limited to the educational sector) and the area (e.g. to a district or a neighborhood limited). However, in practice the boundaries between citizen mentors and “normal” volunteers are often blurred.

In Baden-Wuerttemberg citizens receive a specially designed training for citizenship, which is offered in the state network civic engagement under the leadership of the Paritätisches Bildungswerk Baden-Württemberg. Up to 2004 around a thousand citizen mentors had received further training. The training is carried out by specially trained mentor trainers, often within the framework of adult education centers .
