history

On December 10, 1505, the responsible judge and the council founded this pension institution in Leonfelden. In the lost pen letter it was stated that the dwelling of the citizen Paul was to be bought by the citizens of the market in Leonfelden and that a citizen hospital "for the catering and care of impoverished and sick citizens and their children" should be set up. The citizenship was responsible for the financing and administration of the citizen's hospital, including the associated commercial buildings.

A hospital chaplain, who was subordinate to the pastor of the parish church in Leonfelden , took care of the spiritual well-being . The hospital church in Bad Leonfelden was built between 1517 and around 1520. The nurses could be transported in their beds to the church at ground level to perform their daily foundation prayers.

During his reign, Emperor Joseph II closed a total of 24 monasteries in the region above the Enns and dissolved all brotherhoods by decree of August 9, 1783. On January 6, 1787, the hospital church was also closed.

The medieval welfare complex was renovated in 1987 and 2013 as part of the national exhibition.
