Headquarters of the Citizens Hospital

The Bürgerspital Basel is a social-medical company in Basel . With the care of the elderly, the accompaniment and professional integration of people with a disability, as well as medical rehabilitation, it fulfills tasks that are becoming even more important in today's society. It is organized in the form of a public law foundation and belongs to the civil parish of the city of Basel.

In 1973 the acute clinics (today's university hospital ) were spun off from the citizen hospital to the canton, the other areas remained under the name "Bürgerspital Basel". Since then, all social-medical areas that do not belong to acute medicine have been among the core tasks of the Citizens Hospital:

  • the care of the elderly
  • the accompaniment and integration of people with a disability
  • medical rehabilitation

To fulfill these tasks, the Citizens Hospital has the following areas:

  • Rehabilitation (Reha Chrischona)
  • Care of the elderly
  • Integration (companies and workshops, assisted living, assisted work and professional integration)

The Bürgerspital Basel has five retirement centers, ten residential buildings for people with disabilities, the Reha Chrischona rehabilitation clinic and ten businesses and workshops. The Bürgerspital Basel employs a total of around 1500 people - over 400 of them with an IV pension - and in 2015 generated operating income of 116 million Swiss francs.
