The Bürgerstiftung Berlin is a non-profit, non-party foundation founded by civil society in 1999, which is under the patronage of Wolfgang Thierse . She is involved in the urban area of Berlin and develops sustainable, inclusive, diversity- conscious educational projects for children, young people, families and senior citizens in daycare centers , schools, family centers and senior citizens' homes. It also functions as an unbureaucratic, idea-giving platform for founders who want to invest their private assets in their own foundation or an endowment fund. Richard von Weizsäcker , who was also a member of the board of trustees of the Bürgerstiftung Berlin until 2011, was one of the signatories of the call for a foundation. The full-time managing director of the Berlin Community Foundation is Steffen Schröder.
Projects
The focus of the projects of the Bürgerstiftung Berlin is primarily on volunteer work for children and young people in Berlin. 500 volunteers are active in the projects Homework Help, Kleeberg's Herb Gardens for Berlin Schools, Leary Reading, Learning to Read and Play, Tomato Parade, Environmental Detectives, Magical Physics and the Interactive Picture Book Cinema.
Awards
In 2002, the community foundation received the office award of the community foundation initiative, which was followed in 2007 by the active citizenship award. In the course of the Vattenfall Half Marathon 2015, the Berlin Community Foundation was awarded 3,000 euros.
