The Bürgerstiftung Bremen is a legal foundation under civil law. The Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen established it - acting on behalf of the City of Bremen - on April 24, 2002.

purpose

The Bremen Community Foundation connects people who want to actively do something for living together in Bremen. It offers a platform with know-how, networks, advice, projects and - as far as the forces can - also money for the ideas of the citizens.

According to the statutes, the foundation's purpose is broad and concerns the promotion and development of projects in the areas of education, youth and elderly care, culture and art, science and research, environmental and nature protection, landscape and monument protection, sport, public health , International understanding, promotion of the democratic state and benevolent purposes, as far as the city of Bremen is not legally obliged to do these tasks. The measures can be carried out by the foundation itself or funded by third parties. In terms of funding, it should be essential that the projects are predominantly characterized by civic engagement / voluntary work.

Under the motto: "Moving Bremen together", the Executive Board and the Board of Trustees have decided on the following priorities for the time being:

  • Citizen responsibility and citizen participation
  • Coexistence of generations and cultures
  • Civil courage and violence prevention

organization

The foundation bodies are the board of directors, the foundation council, the founders ' meeting and specialist committees.

  • The board of directors is elected by the board of trustees. He leads and administers the foundation.
  • The Board of Trustees consists of 12 to 15 people and is supplemented by co-opting . He advises and supervises the board of directors.
  • The donor assembly consists of the donors; they belong to her for life. The founders' meeting is to be informed about the essential work of the foundation. It advises the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees and makes recommendations for their composition.
  • Specialized committees can be set up by the executive board. Your tasks are in particular to advise the foundation committees, the use of the allocated budget and the implementation of the foundation's own projects.

The Bremen Community Foundation meets the criteria for a community foundation and has received the seal of approval for community foundations from the Federal Association of German Foundations.
