The non-profit joint stock company Bürgerstiftung Duisburg was founded in 2005. Under the motto “Duisburg for Duisburg issues”, she initiates and oversees numerous projects in the fields of education, dialogue, health and nature. The supervisory board, management board and the resolutions of the annual general meeting of shareholders provide the framework for action and the focus on current needs. Around 300 volunteers are involved in the projects. The foundation is financed through donations and employs a full-time manager. The association founded in 2018 for the benefit of the Duisburg Community Foundation also supports them financially.

The Duisburg community foundation was read by DU through its “public bookcases” ! known. Throughout the city, you can help yourself to the bookcases at over 30 locations without registration and free of charge. The people of Duisburg donate the books for this. In North Rhine-Westphalia , Duisburg is therefore the city with the most public bookcases.
