Community Foundation Leipzig

The LEIPZIGSTIFTUNG is a collective foundation made up of 144 old Leipzig foundations. In 1949 these were initially combined into ten foundations and then in 1951 into a local collective foundation. In 1992, the Leipzig City Council decided to transfer the still existing “Collective Foundation of the City of Leipzig” to the Leipzig Community Foundation . As the legal successor to the collective foundation, it is one of the foundations that exist beyond the GDR and on which foundation work in the GDR can be demonstrated. Following an amendment to the statutes, the foundation has had its current name since January 12, 2015.

The foundation under civil law and pursues exclusively charitable purposes. According to the statutes, the purpose of the foundation is realized in particular through the promotion of science and research, education and training, art and culture, environmental, landscape and monument protection, youth and elderly care as well as welfare.
